The Spyderco Edgerati Black Blade is a distinctive manual folding knife designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser for everyday cutting and convenient pocket carry. Its defining feature is the pierced geometric handle, a design inspired by the lightweight tubular frame of the classic “birdcage” Maserati sports car. The handle scales are machined from solid aluminum, extensively skeletonized and hardcoat anodized black, creating an open construction that keeps this full-size folder at a published weight of only 3.3 ounces. The openings also provide a clear view of the streamlined Compression Lock mechanism housed within the handle. This exact all-black PlainEdge configuration uses a 3.57-inch CPM S30V stainless steel blade with a full-flat grind and a nonreflective black Diamond-Like Carbon coating. A textured index-finger choil supports a forward grip when additional control is useful, while Spyderco’s accessible Trademark Round Hole permits positive manual opening from either side. The broad pocket clip can be installed for left- or right-side tip-up carry, complementing the knife’s ambidextrous opening arrangement. Matching black finishes on the anodized handle, lock bar, clip and hardware give this variant a consistent appearance from blade to frame. Open, the Edgerati measures 8.22 inches overall; folded, it measures 4.70 inches for practical storage and carry. The sharpened edge measures 3.07 inches, providing useful cutting length while preserving space for the forward choil. Made in the United States, this version combines Spyderco’s recognizable opening system and Compression Lock with an unusually lightweight skeletonized aluminum structure. It is a practical choice for customers seeking a full-size American-made folding knife with a plain cutting edge, reversible carry and a coordinated black finish.
