The Best Concealed Carry Gun?

SHOP SIG SAUER

The end of 2023 is fast approaching. In the gun world, that means manufacturers are focused on clearing out excess inventory and preparing for yearly reviews and inventory audits. The consumer is generally rewarded with their patience via holiday sales and manufacturer rebates. But sometimes a company will release something new just in time for the Christmas season. It’s a last effort to generate buzz amid the chaos the season brings. This final entry from one of the industry's biggest pushes the limits of what the optimal concealed carry pistol is.

P365-AXG Legion

The Sig Sauer P365 and all its iterations are perhaps one of the most popular carry options on the market. Sig does a tremendous job building off its models to create options for the consumer. This year saw the introduction of the 365 X-Macro, the largest of the 365 family that pushed the boundaries of concealed carry. Sig upped the ante one more time with the introduction of the P365-AXG Legion.

The basis of the P365-AXG Legion is the Macro. It is a 17-round capacity, small-frame pistol that is purpose-built for carry. The barrel is 3.1” long but the slide extends past that and puts two ports that Sig calls “Expansion Chambers” to assist in recoil mitigation at the nose. The slide is further equipped with night sights and an optics cut that will fit the 507K/RomeoZero footprint. An accessory rail rides underneath that is a perfect home for the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub. The most important change, however, is the pistol’s frame. The AGX designation supports that this pistol sports an aluminum frame instead of the typical polymer. This stiffens the gun and adds a few ounces of weight. While creating a heavier gun for concealed carry appears counterintuitive, the weight improves the shooting experience.

Lastly, the P365-AXG is a member of Sig Sauer’s Legion line, therefore, it comes standard with the Legion drip. This includes the Legion Cerakote Gray finish, extended magwell, G10 Chevron grip panels, and membership into Sig’s exclusive club.

Final Thoughts

So, is the P365-AXG Legion the ultimate carry gun? The answer is basic—maybe. At $1200 it is not the best carry gun for most people. Since this is Sig’s highest trim level, it comes with the expected price tag. But if this does fit someone’s budget, it checks almost all the boxes. The P365-AXG Legion blends the line between a carry gun and a duty weapon. It is well-balanced and easy to shoot but maintains a degree of craftsmanship. The P365-AXG Legion will be hitting dealer shelves soon and I’m sure it will be hard to find.
