The Helle Mândra is a compact fixed blade created in collaboration with outdoorsman Les Stroud for practical cutting tasks where control, portability and a short blade are important. Developed and refined during work in Romania, the design takes its name from the Romanian word for “proud.” Its proportions make it suitable for carrying on outdoor trips and handling controlled camp, hunting and general field-cutting chores without the bulk of a larger belt knife. The polished blade measures 69 mm, or approximately 2.7 inches, and is made from Helle’s H3LS triple-laminated stainless steel. This construction combines corrosion-resistant outer layers with a hard, high-carbon cutting core, giving the blade the balanced toughness and edge characteristics associated with Helle’s traditional laminated knives. At 2.6 mm thick, the blade provides a useful combination of cutting efficiency and strength in a notably compact format. The 80 mm handle is crafted from curly birch with vulcan fiber elements, producing the distinctive natural appearance for which Helle knives are known. Because curly birch is a natural material and the handles are finished by hand, grain, color and shaping can vary slightly from one knife to another. The knife and handle together measure approximately 149 mm, or 5.9 inches, overall. A fitted genuine leather sheath is included to protect the edge and provide a traditional carry option. The knife weighs approximately 70 grams on its own, while the complete knife-and-sheath configuration weighs 110 grams. Designed by Les Stroud and made at Helle’s factory in Holmedal, Norway, the Mândra offers a compact interpretation of a handcrafted Scandinavian outdoor knife with carefully selected natural materials and a distinctive laminated stainless-steel blade.
